About this Framework
The EU AI Act (EU 2024/1689), the world's first comprehensive AI regulation (fully applicable from August 2026), categorises AI systems by risk (Unacceptable/High/Limited/Minimal) with corresponding obligations. High-risk AI (healthcare diagnostics, biometric identification, employment AI, critical infrastructure) requires conformity assessments, CE marking, human oversight mechanisms, transparency measures and EU database registration. Prohibited practices include real-time biometric mass surveillance and social scoring. Fines reach €35 million or 7% of global annual turnover.
